The Fantastic Four-Person Cosplay

The Fantastic Four

The Fantastic Four Make For A Simply Fantastic Group Cosplay

Some cosplays just feel served on a silver platter. This is one of them. The Fantastic Four are back, and this time they’re part of an anachronistic MCU project that seems to be aiming for a completely different vibe than a lot of the other movies.

The cosplay difficulty of doing the full four of them is—to my mind—ranked as such:

  1. Mr. Fantastic
  2. The Thing
  3. The Human Torch
  4. The Invisible Woman

This is because you can more than just cosplay the outfits, you can cosplay the powers. And some of these powers take more work than others.

Mr. Fantastic is basically impossible to do. But, I imagine you can build stuff like a glove that makes it look like your fingers stretch, or maybe some kind of elevated footwear that can be adjusted.

The Thing is obviously a lot of movie-level makeup work—like hours and hours of makeup work. Simulating the shape and texture of his skin will take a lot of effort, but can look incredible if done right.

The Human Torch is likely not going to be feasible as a full-body cosplay, but there are a lot of cool ways to mimic fire—Halloween decorations do so all the time. I’d focus on the hands or maybe the shoulders, if you want to only do fake fire in one spot.

The Invisible Woman is tricky, but not as tricky as the fake fire. You obviously can’t go invisible—but she also can make shields. And the movies usually show those shields as a see-through, rigid material of some sort. That’s easy enough with some kind of plastic.

Basically, what I’m saying is: get creative with it! The Fantastic Four offers so many options for cool cosplay ideas and will give you an excuse to go to a con with three other friends. And doing nerdy stuff with friends is one of life’s greatest joys.
