You Should Cosplay A Planeswalker From Magic: The Gathering
Five years agoโyes, reallyโI wrote an article saying that Magic: The Gathering is a great media property for cosplay. But I never gave a list of some ideas. That was a massive oversite on my part. So, I figured Iโd do something about it by going over five Magic characters that would make for an interesting cosplay challenge. The costumes Iโve chosen are layered, complicated, and look really cool. There are honestly so many options that, for a first outing, I just went with some of the better-known Planeswalkers, but all that means is we can do more lists later down the road.
Chandra

Look at that armor! It not only looks like an effective form of protection but also evokes Chandraโs fire powers through allusions to things like furnaces and forges. As an Izzet playerโsomeone who likes combining water, fire, and lightning magic for those who donโt play MagicโChandra has always been one of my favorite planeswalkers, and itโs always cool to see someone cosplay as her.
Teferi

Those leather bracers are awesome. The color scheme is awesome. The more I look at Teferiโs outfit, the more sections I see that seem like a lot of fun for someone to put into a cosplay. The belt is especially interesting and could give someone a chance to do some additional leather work. Also, if you have the time, the staff is a project in itself.
Nissa

Apparently, I really love a cosplay that includes a staff, and Nissa has a great one. Cosplaying her would also require a lot of sewing to pull off the outfit. Her clothing is both naturalistic and layered, with a lot of different sections and pieces to it. Finallyโand adding another dimension to thingsโNissa has several elven features that will require extra makeup work to recreate. Sheโs just a solid cosplay challenge overall.
Jace

Itโs all about the hood, frankly. That hoodโand the cloak itโs attached toโis so cool looking, and is a challenge to make, and just seems like a lot of fun to wear. But Jaceโs armor isnโt any less impressive. He looks like a classic, knowledgeable battle mage whoโs ready for war.
Kaya

I love the fantasy assassin look, and Kaya is one of the best examples of that Iโve seen in any property. Her main outfit looks practical and badass. Especially her jacket. But, like all the characters on this list, sheโs worn a lot of different armors (and outfits) through her various card arts. If you do cosplay as her, you get to decide which distinct era to pick.
And those are my first five cosplay recommendations for Magic: The Gathering. Like I said, I started off with some of the more well-known characters, but depending on how many lists we do, we can go into some of the non-Planeswalker and even some of the characters that would require building entire suits. But, in the meantime, give these first five a thought, and consider traveling the multiverse.
