It’s Time To Cosplay As Murderbot

The Design of Murderbot Is Fantastic For Someone To Cosplay

SecUnit from The Murderbot Diaries feels like an easy choice for a cosplay. But the visual references we’ve had are the covers of the books. We can’t really get into the details.

Until now.

With the Apple TV show Murderbot out, any cosplayer has a very, very detailed template to work from. You can pick the suit apart visually from all the show’s scenes. The shoulder pads. The heavy boots. It’s a real costume an actor wears—so it properly exists already.

My favorite part of SecUnit’s design, though, is likely also the most difficult to construct. The helmet is a singular piece with a spiral design. I have to assume the black areas are actually see-through plastic or glass because I don’t know how else someone could see out. And though they clearly use CGI in the show to lower the helmet, a real one will need a safe way to remove it.

But, if you can pull it off—and if you enjoy making sarcastic remarks—you could be the talk of a convention.
